Kazuma Ikezawa action figure

The main character in Summer Wars is Kenji Koiso. He’s 17. But it was Kazuma Ikezawa, a 13-year-old side character and computer hacker, who was made an action figure by Alter (or their male line Altair) last year. I happened to come across it in a small otaku shop in Akihabara in December 2011.

I guess I never fully understood the obsession with action figures until I found this one. Or when it found me. Or shall I say when he found me? 😛

What a beautiful craft by sculptor Sen-U Tanaka!

I did buy some smaller action figures before, mainly from Ashita no Joe and Sailor Moon. But never before did I happily pay over 6,000 yen for an action figure. Hello otaku world!

Quite lovely. It is as beautiful, in its way, as the Capitoline Spinario: http://www.bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/italy/rome/capitolinemuseumone/spinario.html

    Very fantastic figurine!

Now – almost two years after your comment – I fall totally for your Pegasus Seiya figure.

The reason is that I’ve started to play Saint Seiya and soon will be watching the original anime from the 1980s because I like the game so much. So now the character means something to me, and the plastic mould becomes alive. Magic.

I think the figure you bought is quite hard to get now. I will keep my eyes open for him on my next trip, whenever that will be. (I saw another version of him at Yodobashi, but didn’t know the character at the time and thought 7000 yen would be silly to spend on an unknown space warrior, aw…)
