Superdeal in the annual book sale

Tomorrow the traditional annual book sale (“bokrea”) begins in Sweden. It’s a relic from a past when sales were regulated. A certain Wednesday in Feburary, the book shops were allowed to start the sale. I remember this Wednesday morning as magical – more than once I stood in a line before the shop openend at an unusually early 7 AM.
Nowadays sales are not regulated, but the book business still plays with this silly rule in order to create a buzz and make customers think they’re getting a good deal, despite with internet shopping and heavy subsidised bestsellers real “annual book sale deals” hardly exist anymore.
Except this one:
My book Bögarnas värsta vän – historien om tidningen Destroyer (the Swedish original edition of Gay Man’s Worst Friend – the Story of Destroyer Magazine) is for sale at Adlibris for only 49 crowns.
I’ll tell you why this is a real deal:
- What you pay to Adlibris: 49 crowns
- What Adlibris pays to me: 36 crowns
- What I pay to Deutsche Post in shipping to Adlibris for each book: 17 crowns
So what I receive in the end is 36 – 17 = 19 crowns. And since the book was more expensive than that to print, I lose money on each sold copy. If that’s not a deal, then what is!
However, there are only 10 copies available for this price, and I’ll probably stop selling in Swedish bookstores altogether in the future, cause I don’t think it’s worth it.
