Working at a Japanese magazine

It was a soft first day. I had a meeting with one of the two editors. Then they had another meeting and then we all left together to attend an art opening at Ginza Graphic Gallery, followed by dinner at a little izakaya nearby.

Dress code is much more casual than I expected. Working hours are 10.30-18.00. Feels a bit like the magazines I used to work at in Sweden. And it’s the same difference in style between the editorial and the sales department; at the latter people dress in suits.

I didn’t feel comfortable taking photos at the office on my first day, but here are some from the art opening – apparently it’s a tradition to sign a guest book at such openings, which I did as you can see – and from the dinner. This is Yamagata cuisine. Very elaborate dishes, some with a kind of sour taste. I had some sake too.
