Praise for Entartete Shota

April 19th, 2012, 14:33 | No comments

The praise for my recently published comic book Entartete Shota start coming in. Following this sweet post on Milkboys, a user in the milkboard wrote:

Fuck you Karl Andersson. Fuck you you white bourgeois scum for flogging cartoon child pornography to make a disturbing political statement. You idiots, the sexualisation of children isn’t good. The sexualisation of teen girls isn’t good, it’s fucking bad. IT’S BAD. Teen boys shouldn’t be sexualised. SHOTACON SEXUALISES TEEN BOYS, IT IS A BAD THING. IT IS BAD.

This almost brought tears to my eyes. Thank you!

Entartete Shota aims to bring the best Japanese shotacon artists to the West in English translation. The first issue features a sweet sexual boy drama by Tsukumo Gou. Buy it here or – if in Sweden – at Adlibris.

Makode Linde Superstar!

I’m extremely proud of and impressed by my brilliant friend Makode, whose “genital mutilation cake” went viral over the last 24 hours and made the frontpages around the world:

BBC News: Swedish minister in ‘racist cake’ controversy

Mirror News: “A racist spectacle”: Swedish culture minister slammed for ‘black face’ cake

The Guardian: Swedish minister denies claims of racism over black woman cake stunt (with video)

New Statesman: The Swedish minister and the “racist cake”

Huffington Post: Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth Cake Controversy: Swedish Minister Of Culture Slammed For ‘Racist’ Cake (VIDEO)

San Francisco Chronicle: Swedish performance art against female circumcision in Africa has the whole world shocked

The whole scandal resulted in a bomb threat against the Modern Museum:

New York Daily News: Bomb threat at museum in Sweden caught in ‘racist cake’ scandal; Cake depicted naked African woman, featured actress in blackface

Washington Post: Modern art museum in Swedish capital evacuated after bomb threat

Fox News: Swedish museum evacuated after bomb threat

Makode himself gives some comments in Swedish media:

SvD: Konstnären: Jag ville förmänskliga tårtan

SVT: “Jag har använt mig av en nidbild av svarta”

Update: Watch Al-Jazeera’s interview with Makode!

Watch the hilarious video from the performance:

Hakone

April 12th, 2012, 13:12 | 2 comments

Hakone is a mountain resort about 1,5 hours train ride from Tokyo. I went there with my friend Yusuke on a Sunday in March 2012. We did sight-seeing and spent the night at one of the popular hot spring resorts of the area.

Fierce girl! :) Didn’t notice her until now.

Mount Fuji in the background.

The volcano valley Ōwakudani.

The black egg (kuro-tamago), boiled in the volcano’s hot springs, is supposed to increase longevity.

Breakfast. (I forgot my camera at dinner!)

Brave Yusuke having the traditional dried fish himono for breakfast.

Me sticking to the Western alternative. :P

Stockholm vs Tokyo beverage prices

April 4th, 2012, 19:21 | 2 comments

(Swedish) people often ask me: “But isn’t Tokyo really expensive?”

I usually reply: “Yes it is. But not as expensive as Stockholm.”

Ok, I’m exaggerating a bit. But on average, I think Stockholm and Tokyo are quite the same pricewise. Of course, I haven’t managed to have a coffee in Stockholm for 5,82 euro. But I also haven’t managed to order a regular beer in Tokyo for 8,96 euro.

Hand-brewed coffee in Tokyo Shimokitazawa: 630 yen = 5,82 euro.

Tapped beer at Stockholm Arlanda airport: 79 sek = 8,96 euro.

Tokyo arrival in March 2012

This post is about 2 weeks late, but anyway, here’s some pictures from the first day of my third Japan trip. My first day is always about going to the hotel and sleeping for some hours. So that’s why these pictures are so boring. :O

Let’s Vitamin! A sweet wiedersehen.

Here I’m buying it!

Style.

Getting off at Shinjuku station.

Looking for my hotel (later in the night apparently).

Only two non-smoking floors – I got the 12th one.

Regular hotel room at Listel Shinjuku.

In the hotel’s drawer.

My view.

My dinner: an “egg dog”.

My desert: An ice cream lollipop.

Healthy kids on tv.

The shopping shot

The art of shopping! Mostly manga and electronics this time (like last time). Forgot to include Shounen Jump, since it’s on my bedside table.

I keep coming back to Akihabara + goodbye Japan

March 30th, 2012, 15:55 | 6 comments

My regular Akihabara breakfast: Ebi sandwich and caffe latte (hotto).

First stop: Mandarake!

My regular Akihabara lunch: Ebi-something with rice and mayo.

Akihabara street scene. My lunch joint on the left.

Akihabara always fills me with happiness!

Dear readers, this is my last day in Japan this time around. I didn’t think it would be possible, but this trip has topped my first two. It has exceeded all expectations, and I’ve been extremely busy – that’s why I haven’t blogged. I’ve been meeting friends and business partners every day, been exploring Hakone, have seen Mount Fuji and stayed at an onsen (hot spring). I also stayed three nights at a manga artist’s home, and I’ve been speaking Japanese more or less nonstop since I arrived. Last but not least, I went to the Sexy Zone concert in Yokohama Arena yesterday, where I (as the only white guy there) was hailed by the girls who thought I was the father (!) of one of the group member who is half German (and turning 12 today ;) ). Well, I’ll try to upload some more memories in the days to come, after I’ve arrived back in Europe.

Sexy Zone in Yokohama Arena

Me, my friend and 17,000 screaming girls saw main act Sexy Zone, guests ABC-Z, and about 100 supporting dancers and singers from Johnny’s Jr in Yokohama Arena tonight.

I can’t really write anything that would make justice to this experience, and I wouldn’t even know where to start anyway. Let’s just say I’ve never seen anything of the kind. Now drifting into happy sleep with a big smile on my face. :)
